John Cortale

A University of Maryland (UM) Terrapin through and through, John Cortale made the Dean's list at the school, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Accounting. He married a UM alumna who also appreciates all things Terrapin, particularly basketball, for which the couple holds season tickets. John Cortale and his wife support the Terrapin Club and even said their vows on campus at the UM Memorial Chapel.

As a Port Jefferson, New York, native, John Cortale grew up rooting for the Yankees. Not a fair-weather fan, he stuck with the team through the dismal years. A freshman in college in 1996, John Cortale watched the final game of the World Series with his best friend on a 13-inch television. He can still see Charlie Hayes catch the last out to clinch the series, ending an 18-year drought for the Yankees. John Cortale continues to cheer for his favorite team every year.

Active in sports himself, John Cortale enjoys several forms of exercise, including biking, jogging, and hiking. A resident of Bethesda, Maryland, he can do all three on the Capital Crescent Trail, an 11-mile stretch between Georgetown and Silver Spring, Maryland. Another favorite pastime, fishing, regularly takes John Cortale to Montauk, Long Island, in search of bluefish. Off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, he recently reeled in a 350-pound hammerhead shark more than 9 feet long.

The best part of angling for John Cortale involves family. He fishes with his father, uncle, and cousins. He caught the shark while fishing with his wife. Close to his parents, he also takes pleasure in traveling and spending time with the family at a Massachusetts lake house. John Cortale calls his grandmother weekly and never misses her birthday party on Long Island. In addition, the family takes an annual Easter trip to Florida.

Sports (NY Yankees), exercising (Biking, jogging, etc), avid hiker, Capital Cresant Trail in DC hike it a lot. Big fan of any University of Maryland sport. Love traveling and spending time with family at Lake House in Sturbird, MA.
